One Church

for in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
Galatians 3:26-28 RSV

You can slice, dice and puree it, but you can't make these words mean anything other than what they say -- there is to be no division, no separation based on outward appearances.  We are children of God, regardless of skin-color, occupation or sex. Christ's church is one and we are supposed stand united as one in Him. We are supposed to over look one another's faults and gently guide one another into truth.

The sheer quantity of churches in a single county in the south is evidence that these words are often over looked by His church. More often than not, we follow the world's lead.  The world and it's anti-Christ spirit will always point us in the opposite direction of the Bible.  The world tells us we are black, white, Asian, poor, middle-class, rich, victims, disabled, depressed, alcoholic, etc. etc. etc.  The world is determined to put a label on us all because labels divide.

Labels cause us to lose focus of the big picture. Labels cause us to stand with a race, rather than with Christ, to consider ourselves victims, rather than conquerors, to strive for a financial reward, rather a spiritual one.  Labels cause us to look inward, rather than upward.

No matter what label the world places on a Christian, ultimately their only true identification is a child of God. Period. God tells his children they will experience adversity on this earth, but that adversity is not who we are. The adversity is what we are to overcome.

We overcome adversity of all kinds by clinging to the hope that is Christ by learning and obeying the Word he has given us. We fight through our storms, with Him leading the way, until we are able to leave it behind -- not by letting it hang over our heads our entire life like a black cloud.

It is by looking up and focusing on Him, and not the label, that day by day, moment by moment, we become what he says we are -- victorious children of God.
