REAPING LIFE

"Do not be decieved and deluded and mislead, God will not allow Himself to be sneered at (scorned, disdained, or mocked by mere pretensions or professions, or by His precepts being set aside.)[He inevitably deludes himself who attempts to delude God.] For whatever a man sows, that and that only is what he will reap. For he who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap decay and ruin and destruction, but he who sows to the spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life."  (Galatians 6:7-8 AMP)

It is said often that a 'good' god would not send his creation to hell. This verse makes it clear that God doesn't make that choice. We do. It is from the Spirit that we gain eternal life. If we spend our entire lives feeding the flesh and starving the Spirit, it stands to reason what we reap will not be heavenly.

The flesh is a spoiled temper-tantrum throwing child.  No matter how much we give it of any good thing, it wants more, more, more! If we never learn to say no, if we never discipline ourselves to stand strong when our spirit is telling us enough is enough, we become slaves to our flesh: gluttons, alcoholics, sex addicts controlled by our feelings, continually feeding urges that will never be satisfied.

Satan always takes what God intended for good, perverts it and turns it against God's creation.  He comes to steal, kill and destroy.  But God tells us throughout His Word to stand strong against the wiles of satan.  We have to train our spirit to rule our flesh.  Proverbs 25:28 tells us that "He who has no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down and without walls."  Anything can and will get in and rule over us if our spirit is weak.

When Christ was in the wilderness being tempted by satan to turn the rocks into loaves of bread, His flesh was likely starving at that point.  But He stood strong against satan, and strengthened His spirit by quoting scripture to defeat satan's purpose.

The more we say 'no' to our flesh, the stronger in character and spirit we will become.  The more we ignore our flesh, the quieter it becomes.  When we rule our flesh, the Spirit is increased, the flesh is decreased.  It is then we are able to really enjoy the good things of this life because we are choosing to, rather than simply being slaves to the demands of our flesh.
