WE ARE WHAT'S WRONG

Writing  as I sit in shock after watching a news reporter and cameraman shot to death on live TV. Everyone is in shock. How could anyone do something so senseless and heinous?

It is horrible.  It is heinous.  It so awful there are not enough awful adjectives to describe how horrible it really is. Atrocious. Malicious. The epitome of evil.  And across the world everyday, even greater evils take place. This one hits us in the gut because its so close to home.  Why, why, why we ask?  What on earth is wrong with people?

We are what's wrong.

Everytime we choose to act in hateful, angry, bitter, envious, lying manner, we are what's wrong. When we rage on the road 'cause someone dared to cut us off.  When we cop an attitude because we don't feel we're being treated as we should be treated.  When we do unto others as we get done unto. When we tell the lie, snipe at the service person, cheat on the test, the resume, the wife or husband, we are the shooter.

Just because we chose to place the line of reason a little higher, does not wash the blood from our hands.

When we choose to act out of lust, out of greed and jealousy, out of anger, malice and bitterness, when we refuse to show kindness instead of giving someone 'what they deserve', we load the bullets.

The law is written on our hearts.  We know when we are choosing what is not good.  Every time we choose the dark, we feed the evil on this earth. We pull the trigger.

Century after century, man's heart has proven to be corrupted with greed, envy, and hate.  Yet we worship man and deny God because His laws are too stringent.  Then we plead for man to write more laws to fix a broken society. We blame inanimate objects, racism, poverty.  We blame anything and anyone rather than acknowledge that we are fallen and broken.

Greed, corruption, hate, envy -- generation after generation they remain.  Yet man continues to lie to himself and to deny His Creator.  We are told that one day He will be revealed in more than just hearts, and man will have no choice but to acknowledge what has been written on his heart all along. It is then that we'll all lay our weapons down and surrender.  May He have mercy on us all.



Prayers for peace and comfort for the families, friends and coworkers affected by this nightmare. And prayers that eyes and ears might be opened to the Truth.

The Stuff of Life

Matthew 6:19-21   RSV From birth to death the majority of us toil on this earth, to do just what He tells us not to do in this scripture.  Madison Avenue is very good at their job of convincing us that we need stuff to be more beautiful, stuff to be hipper, stuff to organize our stuff, stuff to communicate better, stuff to cook better, stuff to relax better and of course, a bigger place to keep all our stuff.  Then we need the security system to protect our stuff, and the cleaning crew to clean our bigger places and all our stuff because we're too busy working to take care of all the stuff we have.   Many put the people in their lives second to their stuff.  Some hoard stu

THE BEGINNING OF WISDOM

I drove past a school the other day and noticed a sign which read, “Wisdom begins with Wonder”.  Well in a world chock full of knowledge, we could certainly use a little wisdom.  However, the Bible tells us that the ‘fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom’, not ‘wonder’.  Of course, scripture is too controversial to place on school sign, so they had to come up with something. An article I just read in my local paper tells us of a boy who dumped his father’s dead body along the side of the road seven years ago, telling no one his father had passed, so he could continue to collect his social security checks.  Seven years later, and neighbors and the boy’s mother suddenly became curious as to why they hadn’t seen the father.  They decided to alert police that something might be wrong.  Ya think? I can't help but feel sympathetic towards the boy, simply because he was likely never taught (‘trained up the way he should go’) to get out and make his own way in the world. The
